Garbage and Recycling Services

Plum Borough has a contract with County Hauling for curbside collection of garbage and mixed, single-stream recycling at single-family homes and multi-family residences with four or fewer units. Garbage and recycling services are billed by the Plum Borough Municipal Authority on behalf of the Borough.

Weekly Schedule

Garbage and Recycling is picked up every week. Please place your bins at the curb the night before your pick-up, or before 5:00 am on your service day.  If your bins are placed at the curb after 5:00 am, there is no guarantee of pick-up.

Holiday Schedule

The Borough’s contract with County Hauling has six holidays that cause a one-day service delay.

• New Years Day (January 1^st)

• Memorial Day (Last Monday of May)

• 4^th of July

• Labor Day (First Monday of September)

• Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday of November)

• Christmas Day (December 25^th)

If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday there is no change in service.

Collection Guidelines

• Garbage and recycling must be out the night before your collection day, or prior to 5 AM on the day of collection.

• All garbage and recycling carts, as well as bulk items, must be within five feet of the curb (or five feet from the edge of a traveled road) and placed so as not to interfere with the collection of other items, block the right of way or obstruct traffic. Items not visible or otherwise obstructed from view will not be collected.

• All garbage must be bagged before being placed in the cart. Loose garbage is a potential health hazard, is more difficult to collect and is a major factor in municipal litter.

• Place Bulk Items, limit one per week, at the curb with your regular garbage and in a manner so as to not obstruct access to any other item (Mattress/box-spring wrapped in moving or disposal bag, stove, washer or dryer refrigerator/window AC unit with the freon removed, couch, etc.)

• Please do not bag your recycling, it should be placed in the cart loose. If you are placing loose cardboard out for recycling, please flatten all boxes and stack them neatly next to your recycling can.
