Recycling Information
- Recycling will be picked up from your residence every other week (on Tuesdays). Note, if a holiday occurs on a Monday or Tuesday, recycling will be delayed one day.
- Call 412-795-6800 ext. 251 to determine if your household follows the A or B recycling schedule.

Materials Collected
- #1 and #2 plastic containers. Number clarification is imprinted on the bottom of the container in a recycle symbol.
- Aluminum containers, steel, and tin cans.
- Brown, green, and clear glass.
To ensure pick up, all recyclables should be put into Borough recycling bins. One bin is issued per household and can be obtained at no extra charge at the Borough Building. All recyclables may be placed in the same bin.
Paper Recycling Program
Drop off all of your paper in the bins located at the rear of the Fire Departments, EMS, Borough Schools, the Senior Center, and most churches.
- Newspapers and junk mail should be in paper bags only, not plastic. They may also be tied with string.
- Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed.
- No cardboard can be accepted.
Residential Tire Collection
Tire collection is scheduled for September 18, 2010 at the Borough Building, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
- There is a limit of 12 tires per family.
- Proof of residency (driver's license) will be required.
- All tires must be removed from the rims.
Household Hazardous Waste
For a collection schedule and information on the disposal of Household Hazardous Waste, including unwanted pharmaceuticals, paint and paint products, auto fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, and pool and photography chemicals; contact the Southwestern PA HHW Task Force at 412-488-7452 or visit their website at http://www.swpahhw.org.
Pennsylvania Resource Council
Call PRC at 412-488-7490, ext. 325 or visit www.prc.org for the 2009 schedule of upcoming events. At these events you can dispose of computers, computer monitors, printers, scanners, ink cartridges, cell phones, tires, and appliances at a nominal fee.
2009 Yard Waste Collection
Two yard waste collections are scheduled for Plum residents. On Saturday, May 16th and November 7th yard eebris can be put out at curbside. To ensure pick up, you must comply with the following stipulations:
- Bundles must not exceed 35lbs.
- All yard debris (such as leaves, twigs, small shrubs, or plants) must be in biodegradable bags with no soil attached. Branches must be cut in 4' lengths and be no more than 3: in diameter.
- All yard debris must be at the curb the night before collection.
Please note: In order to be on the list for yard waste collection, you must call the sanitation department at 412-795-6800 ext. 251. If you are not on the schedule, you will not receive this service.
Items NOT Collected in Regular Trash
- Construction or building materials.
- Truck or tire parts.
- Tires (except of announced dates)
- Refrigerators, air conditioners, or any other appliance unless freon is removed.
- Note on freon appliances: For removal of freon call any refrigeration company, or you may call the Appliance Warehouse at 412-381-8800 or http://www.appliancewarehouse.com. All appliances containing freon must show proof of freon removal before Waste Management will remove it from your home. A sticker from a licensed technician should be affixed to the appliance.
Guidelines for Trash Collection
- All trash must be bagged. If trash is placed in cans, cans should not exceed 35 lbs.
- Carpets will be taken if cut into sections of 3-4 feet, rolled and tied.
- Special arrangements should be made for sleeper sofa removal.
- Bulk items such at mattresses or furniture will be taken.
- All cardboard boxes should be broken down and tied.
In order to assure collection, all trash should be set out at curbside no earlier than 6:00pm the night before collection and not later than 6:00am the day of collection. Trash should not be more than 5 feet from the curb nor be obstructed by parked cars or plowed snow.
