Doing Business in Plum

Plum Borough is committed to providing your firm with the business climate, resources, and infrastructure necessary for a successful enterprise. The key ingredients to this approach are highlighted throughout this section.

Plum is not your ordinary Pennsylvania Borough. Our 29 square miles of territory contain large tracts of undeveloped property, interspersed with attractive residential neighborhoods. Many acres of commercial and industrial property are available for development -- with room to grow. Major transportation arteries provide convenient access for customers and freight.

The residents of Plum Borough enjoy an exceptional quality of life. Our community is not only a great place to start or run a business; it is a great place to build a home and raise a family. In many ways, your business and family can enjoy the benefits of convenient access to a major metropolitan market, while living in a safe, attractive community.

The public officials and staff at Plum Borough are ready to assist your firm. We can help you locate suitable sites or facilities, keep you informed during the development process, and address concerns as they arise. Additionally, Plum works to foster an attractive business climate by not taxing business sales or profits as a means of gaining revenue. Our strong residential sector provides a tax base that is sufficient to finance the facilities and services businesses rely upon for essential operations.

Infrastructure

Plum Borough has infrastructure in place to serve present and future residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

  • Traditional infrastructure needs are met through the Plum Borough Municipal Authority, which provides water and sanitary sewer service to the Borough.
  • Natural gas, telecommunications and cable TV services provided by a variety of privately held companies are available throughout the Borough.
  • All of the existing utilities have sufficient capacity to handle growth and development. Sanitary sewer service in particular has been guaranteed through the recent purchase of 2,400 sewer taps by the Plum Borough Municipal Authority for the Plum Creek Watershed area of the Borough.
  • New fiber optic systems have recently been installed, making high speed internet service widely available.

Labor Force

Plum Borough offers a diverse and educated labor force. Current residents are also highly skilled and educated, which can be oa great benefit to businesses.
