Planning CommissionThe Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (Act 247 of 1968 and subsequent amendments) is the legislation which conveys planning authority to municipalities and sets the framework a municipal planning agency must follow. The Municipalities Planning Code allows a municipality to establish a Planning Commission, a planning department or both. Plum Borough has chosen to establish a Planning Commission and a professionally staffed planning department to manage and guide the growth and development of the community.
The Plum Borough Planning Commission reviews all new subdivisions, land developments, conditional use requests and zoning change requests in the Borough. The Planning Commission reports its findings to Borough Council and makes a recommendation to Council for legislative action. The Planning Commission also reviews proposals for ordinance revisions and makes recommendations to Council on these issues as well.
The Planning Commission is a seven member volunteer board which is appointed by Borough Council. Each member serves a term of four years which are staggered so that the terms of no more than two (2) members expire in any given year. Planning Commission appointments are made by Borough Council every January. Any resident of the Borough who is 18 years or older is eligible to be a member of the Planning Commission. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Planning Commission you should attend a Planning Commission meeting to experience how a meeting is conducted and decide if you are interested. If you are interested, send a detailed resume and cover letter expressing your interest and qualifications for the position. This letter should be sent to the Plum Borough Manager by December 15th in order to be considered for an appointment.
