Child Passenger Safety
Did you know that 90% of all car seats are not used the right way? Could yours be one of them? Using a car seat correctly can make a very big difference in how the seat works in protecting your child in a crash. Attend one of our car seat checks or go to one of our local fitting stations to see if your car seat is being used correctly. We can help you install your car seat correctly, check your seat for recalls, and provide you with important information about when your child is ready to graduate up to the next sized seat. The Plum Borough Police Department is committed to preventing children's injuries and deaths in vehicle crashes by educating on how to safely transport kids. Pennsylvania law mandates that everyone must be properly restrained when riding in vehicles. Car seats and booster seats must be used as long as the seat fits the child’s height and weight. Typically, children should use a booster seat until they are at least 4'9". Children must be at least one year old and weigh 20 pounds before they can ride forward facing in a vehicle. Don't "graduate" your child too soon. Don't risk your child's life. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to learn how to properly install a car seat or booster seat in their vehicle at the Plum Borough Police department.
